Newly elected women commissioners of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi have sought mentorship and guidance from Vice-Chancellor Professor Rita Akosua Dickson as they begin their leadership roles.

Led by the SRC Women’s Commissioner, Nana Yaa Aduakye, the delegation of female student leaders paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, expressing their desire to learn from her leadership experience and contribute meaningfully to student empowerment during their tenure.
“We came here today to tap into your wisdom and experience as a woman in leadership,” the Women’s Commissioner said. “Your journey is a great source of inspiration to us, and we are committed to making a positive impact during our time in office.”
Professor Mrs. Dickson, the university’s first female Vice-Chancellor, welcomed the delegation and praised their initiative in seeking mentorship. She encouraged them to lead with integrity, courage, and compassion, especially in championing the welfare of women on campus.
“I am proud of you for taking up leadership roles,” she said. “As young women in these positions, you carry the responsibility of uplifting others. Continue to lead with confidence and a service mindset.”
She underscored the importance of student leadership in KNUST’s development process and emphasized the need for active communication between student leaders and the university’s administration.
“We run a feedback-driven system. The Vice-Chancellor cannot be everywhere, but you student leaders are everywhere. If you do not lead and provide feedback, the vision of continuous quality improvement will not work,” she noted.
Professor Mrs. Dickson assured the students of the university’s continued support and urged them to build legacies that would benefit future generations.
“Leadership can be a fulfilling journey when focused on service, legacy, and progress. Ensure that what you came to meet improves by the time you leave,” she concluded.
