The Human Resources Development (HRD) Division of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has organized a two-day Administrative and Leadership Workshop for Deans and Heads of Departments (HoDs).
The event aimed to boost administrative efficiency, strengthen leadership skills, and align faculty leadership with institutional goals to drive KNUST’s growth and excellence.

Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor David Asamoah highlighted the importance of effective leadership in addressing the dynamic challenges of higher education.
“This workshop fosters dialogue, shares best practices, and explores innovative strategies to enhance leadership and administrative efficiency,” he said.
He also emphasized the role of the workshop in supporting the Vice-Chancellor’s One Department, One Startup (1D1S) initiative, which aims to position KNUST as a leader in entrepreneurship and academic excellence.
Ms. Lucy Diawuo, Deputy Registrar for Academic Affairs, urged participants to embrace traits like humility, patience, and strategic thinking.
She outlined key leadership responsibilities, including faculty mentorship, staff supervision, and creating a conducive learning environment.
“The academic life of the university revolves around departments and faculties, so effective administration is crucial,” she stressed.

Mr. Yaw Owusu-Asamoah, Deputy Registrar of HRD, discussed faculty appointments and promotions, emphasizing the importance of research, teaching, and service.
He assured participants that the HRD Division would provide updates on promotion applications under review.
Professor Dadson Awunyo-Vitor, Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, highlighted the need for stronger academia-industry collaboration.
He noted that such partnerships would equip students with practical skills and align academic programs with industry standards.
Dr. Charles Nsiah, the University’s Finance Officer, advised Deans and HoDs to involve faculty members in budgeting processes and operate within allocated budgets.
Meanwhile, Mr. Abraham Adusei from the Quality Assurance and Planning Office (QAPO) outlined guidelines for maintaining program accreditation, urging departments to monitor timelines and conduct regular reviews.
Other sessions covered topics such as IT tools for administration, procurement procedures, auditing, and examination management.
