Call for Applications for Appointments

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, announces for the information of the Academic Community and the General Public, the following vacancies, effective, 1ST NOVEMBER, 2024:

  1. Director, School of Graduate Studies (SGS)
  2. Director, Institute of Distance Learning (IDL)
  3. Director, University Health Services
  1. Director, School of Graduate Studies (SGS)

The Director, School of Graduate Studies is the Head of the School.  The Director shall be responsible for providing leadership to the School and for maintaining and promoting good governance in accordance with policies and procedures prescribed by the Act and Statutes of the University.

The Person

The Director of Graduate School:

  • Must be a Professor or equivalent Grade.
  • Must have a drive to champion the University’s vision to be the leading hub for advancing applied research and innovation.
  • Must be able to collaborate with Industry and other key stakeholders to convert research outputs to practical useful resources to impact the country.
  • Must be able to attract grants and funds for the Graduate Students Research Fund (GreF) and introduce innovative activities aimed at transforming the School of Graduate Studies.
  • Must be a distinguished scholar with capacity to motivate and direct staff.
  • Must possess excellent communication & interpersonal skills and be sound and impartial in judgement.

Terms of Appointment

  • The Appointment, which is full-time, shall be for THREE (3) YEARS in the first instance before attaining the compulsory retiring age of SIXTY (60). The appointment may be subject to renewal for another term of Three (3) Years (after evaluation of performance) altogether making a maximum of Six (6) Years. The Candidate may opt to be a Faculty Member after serving the Six-Year Term.
  • Salary and fringe benefits attached to the post are attractive.

  1. Director, Institute of Distance Learning (IDL)

The Director is the Head of the Institute. He is to provide leadership and promote efficiency and good governance for the Institute, which has Teaching and Learning Centres in ten (10) of the sixteen (16) regions with over 15,000 students across the country.

The Institute of Distance Learning provides quality, flexible and demand driven, continuing tertiary education programmes using blended approach of face-to-face and online delivery sessions.

The Person

The Director of the IDL;

  • Must be of Professorial Rank or equivalent Grade.
  • Must have the drive to develop and implement innovative tools and platforms to enhance the distance learning education experience through new technology advancements.
  • Must have a strategic plan to ensure the technical infrastructure at the IDL supports the efficient delivery of distance learning programmes and strengthens the Institute’s online presence.
  • Must be able to seek external funding opportunities, including grants and partnerships, to support distance learning initiatives.
  • Must be able to leverage on Information Technology to provide professional development opportunities to enhance teaching effectiveness and technological proficiency and to expand the scope of the Institute.
  • Must possess excellent communication & interpersonal skills and be sound and impartial in judgement.

  1. Director of University Health Services

The Director of University Health Services shall be responsible, under the Vice-Chancellor for providing leadership, promoting efficiency and good governance at the University Health Services in accordance with policies and procedures prescribed by the Statutes of the University. The Director shall provide favourable environment to support clinical training for Medical Students at the University Hospital.

The person

The Director of University Health Services;

  • Must be a qualified Medical Officer registered with, and in good standing with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council or equivalent recognised professional body, with at least fifteen (15) years post-qualification experience in the practice of Medicine/Dentistry.
  • Must possess a Postgraduate Degree from a recognised Institution of Higher Learning in a relevant field of Study.
  • Must have Membership and/or Fellowship from a recognised Professional Body.
  • Must be above reproach and exhibit a high sense of industry, leadership qualities and organisational skills in the Health Delivery Sector.
  • Must have served in a University, Ghana Health Service or equivalent analogous institution at a rank not below a Principal Medical Officer or as a Consultant in a University or analogous institution for a minimum of five (5) years.

Terms of Appointment

The Appointment, which is full-time, shall be for FIVE (5) YEARS in the first instance before attaining the compulsory retiring age of SIXTY (60). The appointment may be renewed for another term of up to five (5) Years after evaluation of performance by the University Council.
