The KNUST Basic School, in collaboration with Afenya Media, a not-for-profit organization based in Kentucky, USA, has held a sexual harassment awareness talk for Junior High School students.
The event aimed to help students understand sexual harassment in age-appropriate terms, recognize inappropriate behaviour, and take practical steps to address it.
The initiative also sought to foster a supportive environment by empowering students to seek help and stand up for themselves and their peers.

Ms. Akosua Boachie, President of Afenya Media, delivered a presentation based on a book written by Ama Wilson Intsiful, a member of the Afenya Media team and a staff member of KNUST. Ms. Boachie encouraged students to speak up when confronted with sexual harassment, advising them to confide in trusted adults, such as parents, teachers, or school counselors.
"Use all the resources that you have. Don’t hide it and don’t be scared to voice it out. People who have kept these matters to themselves have suffered the consequences. If you feel too scared to talk, write it down and give it to a trusted adult,” she said.

Mr. Eric Oti-Attah, Head of KNUST Junior High School, added: "Today, we are here to tell you that whatever happens, be bold and talk to the teachers. We will find a way to solve it, so don’t be scared. We won’t say you’re a bad girl or a bad boy," he stated.
Mrs. Theresa Anyimadu, Assistant Head of KNUST Junior High School, advised students to seek help from adults rather than peers, as adults are more experienced and capable of providing the right support.
"Feel free to find somebody you trust who can help you. That will be the best way. Don’t keep it to yourself and let it eat you up. Sometimes, you tell a friend, and they may not give you the best advice. Instead, talk to an adult you trust," she said.

Rev. (Mrs.) Irene Owusuah Nkansah, Head of KNUST Basic School, assured students of the school's commitment to supporting them. She highlighted the staff's readiness to listen and provide help whenever needed and encouraged students to remain focused on their education.
