The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, and Dext Technology Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance STEM education through the Junior Science and Maths Quiz (JSMQ), a flagship programme of KNUST. The signing ceremony was held on 2nd May 2024 at the Council Chamber of the University.
Speaking on the purpose of the MoU, Professor Kwasi Preko, the Board Chairman of the Junior Science and Maths Quiz and a Professor of Geophysics at the Department of Physics, emphasised that the signing of the agreement signifies the elevation of the partnership with Dext Technology Limited to new heights for academic advancement in the STEM fields through the quiz competition. He highlighted the strategic importance of the JSMQ which is designed to foster STEM education, especially at the Junior High School (J.H.S) level.
Mr. Charles Ofori Antipem, the Chief Executive Officer of Dext Technology Limited, expressed enthusiasm for the enhanced collaboration between JSMQ and Dext Technology Limited. As an alumnus of KNUST, Mr. Antipem stressed the critical role institutions like KNUST play in shaping the future of science and technology. He outlined his Company's commitment to supporting the JSMQ for three years and beyond, aiming to train STEM teachers, engage more KNUST alumni, and contribute to the growth and success of the Junior Science and Maths Quiz.
Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, reiterated the University's dedication to preparing youth for the rapidly evolving technological world. She emphasised KNUST's core values in improving the quality of life and expressed confidence in the 'catch them young' approach to nurturing future innovators through platforms like JSMQ. Professor (Mrs.) Dickson called upon institutions and businesses to rally behind the Quiz competition. This, she believes, will help shape the next generation of STEM leaders and thinkers.
