Admission of Candidates to MPhil in Intellectual Property (MIP) 2020-2022

The International Programmes Office advertises for the School of Graduate Studies vacancies available in the MPhil Degree in Intellectual Property (MIP) Programme offered by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in collaboration with the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO) and Intellectual Property Office of Ghana.

Duration

The duration is Twenty-four months, from August, 2020 to July, 2022 including holidays, structured in two parts, as follows:

  • First Year (August 2020 to July, 2021): Residential phase requiring physical attendance at lectures undertaken at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana.
  • Second Year (August 2021 to July, 2022): Dissertation Phase requiring research and writing on an approved research topic.

The Programme adopts a comparative approach, with emphasis on Africa. Lectures are given by leading academics, intellectual property practitioners, intellectual property officers and other experts drawn from across Africa.

Entry Requirements

Eligible candidates are required to hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (second class lower) from a recognised university in any Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Social Science disciplines and have a minimum of two years’ work experience. Proof of English Language proficiency is required from students whose countries official language is not English.

They need to submit evidence of proficiency in an appropriate internationally approved English examination e.g. IELTS, TOEFL AWARD.

Upon satisfactory completion of the programme, participants will be awarded a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) Degree in Intellectual Property (MIP) by KNUST on behalf of ARIPO.

Fee Schedule

The cost and funds required for the duration of the MIP programme for foreign and local students are provided at the KNUST website.

Scholarships

With a view to contributing to the development of human resources in the field of Intellectual Property in Africa, ARIPO will provide limited number of scholarships to brilliant but needy students enrolling in the 2020/2021 Academic Year. The scholarship shall cover the cost of a return air ticket, board and lodge at KNUST, tuition and registration fees, and medical insurance.
