The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) Chapter of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has honoured five retired members at a send-off party held as part of its general meeting.
The retirees: Mrs Millicent Owusu Nyako, Mr John Kwaku Agyemang, Mr Owusu-Ansah Debrah, Mr John Mensah Dadzie and Mr Anthony Adjapong, were recognised for their contributions to the university and the association.
Mrs Owusu Nyako expressed appreciation for the relationships she had built during her years of service and urged members to remain supportive of retired colleagues.
She appealed to serving members to treat retirees with kindness and assist them whenever they returned to the university for support, reminding them that they would also eventually retire and need assistance.
Mr Agyemang described the association as a family whose bonds extended beyond the workplace and continued after retirement. He encouraged members to maintain their relationships and remain connected to the association.
“Once you are a member of this family, you remain a member, even when you travel abroad and return,” he said.

Mr Owusu-Ansah Debrah recounted GAUA’s early history and development, reflecting on the challenges members faced in sustaining its leadership and financing its activities.
He recalled periods when few members were willing to take up leadership positions and spoke about the financial sacrifices made to support the association.
“We must sacrifice for the association,” he said.
Mr Debrah urged members to build on those efforts by contributing to the association’s upkeep and participating actively in its work.

Mr Adjapong assured members that retirees remained accessible and willing to stay in touch with their colleagues.
“All I can say is that we are always around,” he said.
