Mr. Kwasi Opoku, the President of Ghana Institute of Planners (GIP) and some members of the Institute, accompanied by the President of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners have paid a courtesy call on the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson.
The visit was to formally invite the Vice Chancellor to the 47th Annual General Conference of the Ghana Institute of Planners from 30th November to 1st December, 2018 to be held at KNUST School of Business (KSB). The Conference which is themed; ‘The Key Factor in Effective Sanitation Service Delivery’ aims at confronting the oppositional notion that in Africa, urbanisation is more of a problem than a development toolkit.
According to Dr. Michael Poku-Boansi, Head, Department of Planning, the Conference would explore the evolution of settlements and cities in the African context, investigate innovative approaches that can turn the informal growth of cities to enable them contribute towards urban economic growth and examine the opportunities and challenges that prevail through planned cities in effective delivery of sanitation services.
The Pro Vice Chancellor thanked the delegation for their visit and promised to support the conference.
