Call for Applications for Post Doctoral Training Fellow - Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology

The Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology in the College of Science in KNUST is seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and ambitious

POST DOCTORAL TRAINING FELLOW

To contribute to genomics research, big-data analysis and training. The Fellow will work with Dr. Samson Pandem Salifu in the Department in collaboration with other groups and projects within WASLIBRe, Fogarty Global Health Training, H3ABioNet and H3Africa.

 

Eligibility

The position is open to distinguished Ghanaians and other African Scholars.  The applicant must have the following:

  • Possess PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Public Health or Biosciences with strong data analysis skills gained in other fields
  • Research experience in programming and data analysis
  • Possess skills in at least one of: R, Python, Perl, Java, C/C++ in a Unix/Linux environment and the ability to learn new programming skills as may be required
  • Knowledge in statistical analysis relevant to biological research and large datasets
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, but also operate as part of a team providing direction and guidance
  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to conceive, design and execute appropriate experimental analyses and draw conclusions from the outcomes
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to work beyond regular hours if required

 

The Applicant

  • Ability to identify and secure grant funding independently or as part of a team
  • Experience and confidence in presenting research findings at national and international meetings
  • Be familiar with molecular biology/structural biology concepts and principles
  • Sound knowledge of standard bioinformatics tools, algorithms and techniques commonly applied in high-throughput sequencing
  • Major contributor to at least one paper in a peer-reviewed journal

 

General Conditions of Award

  1. The appointment is Full Time for a period of one year in the first instance, which can be extended annually depending on availability of funds and the performance of the Postdoctoral Fellow
  2. Individuals who have doctoral degree within the past five years are eligible to apply
  3. The successful candidate may, as part of their professional development, be required to participate in departmental activities such as limited teaching and supervision and duties incidental thereto
  4. Remuneration is very attractive
  5. The applicant would be expected to assume duty as soon as appointed
