The Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson has honoured fifty-two (52) undergraduate and postgraduate students who have excelled in various fields. The event, dubbed the ‘Vice-Chancellor’s Students’ Excellence Awards (VCSEA), was held at the Great Hall of the University on 2nd July, 2024.
The ceremony, themed "Celebrating Achievements Beyond Boundaries: Recognising Students' Excellence," aimed to appreciate the hard work and dedication of students who have distinguished themselves in various aspects of student life at KNUST. The event saw 226 nominees, comprising 181 males and 45 females, with 117 finalists.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, in her address, emphasised that the theme for this year’s VCSEA signifies not only academic success but also the creativity, ingenuity, and innovativeness of students making a positive impact. She highlighted that the awards demonstrate that there are no boundaries to excellence, recognising those who push beyond limits and exceed expectations to achieve remarkable accomplishments as they are trained to become resourceful global citizens ready to take on the world.
Professor (Mrs.) Dickson expressed her joy and pride in the students' achievements, which have brought great honour to her as the Vice-Chancellor and the entire University. She hoped the awards would inspire the recipients to strive for even greater heights and uncover more of their talents. She assured them of the Management’s unwavering support in their journey to greatness. “Let us remember that each award is not merely a recognition of past achievements but the beginning of greater accomplishments in your respective potentials. May this experience serve as a springboard that catapults us to greater success and endless possibilities as we forge ahead.”

Professor Marian Asantewah Nkansah, the Deputy Director in Charge of Housing and Welfare at the Directorate of Students Affairs and Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the 2024 VCSEA, stated that the 15-member Committee, established on 19th April, was tasked with identifying and recommending KNUST students excelling in diverse fields for recognition.
The VCSEA this year, introduced four new categories: Outstanding Academic Performance (IDL), Best Poster, Best Exhibit, and Outstanding Media Personality, making a total of 14 major award categories, including Student Leadership, Academic Excellence, Sports, Debate, Cadet, Entrepreneurship, Volunteerism, Media, Creative Arts, and Best College in terms of student-led activities. The selection process involved evaluating CVs, referees’ recommendations, academic transcripts, evidence of leadership, and statements of purpose. Out of the 226 nominations, fifty-two (52) students were recognised for outstanding achievement.
The deserving students were presented with plaques, and medals in recognition of their meritorious service to the University and beyond.
