Rachel Quaysel, a final-year Nursing student’s internship experience was more than just a compulsory requirement, it became a chance to learn, grow, and explore her future career path.
After the main campus vacation, Rachel’s vacation break wasn’t spent lounging or traveling. Instead, she stayed on campus for six weeks to complete her internal clinicals.
“We had a week-long break afterward, then went to Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital for a three-week psychiatric nursing affiliation,” she explained.
During her time on campus, Rachel had the opportunity to apply her classroom knowledge in real-world settings, engaging in hands-on activities that would better prepare her for her future career in nursing.
Rachel’s internship experience took a significant turn when she was placed at Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital for the psychiatric nursing affiliation. She described it as one of the most rewarding parts of her training.
“My stay at Ankaful was amazing. It was one of the best experiences I’ve had.
"Some of the patients are very friendly and have been taught to cooperate well. I’ve learned so much, and now, if I decide to specialize in psychiatric nursing, I already have valuable experience,” Rachel shared.
Rachel also reflected on her experience at Kwadaso SDA Hospital during her internal clinicals, where she and her peers were involved in group presentations.
“We had a series of group presentations, where we picked a patient and presented about their condition. If there were any mistakes, senior nurses were around who would teach us how to present correctly. They also guided us on how to approach the final licensing exam,” she explained.
