The KNUST Wellness Centre in collaboration with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources has held a 3-day fair of fresh foods produced in KNUST to commemorate the month of March as the ‘National Nutrition month’; a period set aside to encourage people to eat well.
The KNUST Wellness Centre is a state-of-the-art Health, Nutrition and Fitness Consultancy Centre created to promote preventive health to staff and students in KNUST and the general public. The Centre also conducts thorough medical screening to help people know their health status for clinical advice and treatment. It is located at the Hale and Hearty Centre, near the KNUST Swimming pool with its members referred to as ‘‘Wellness Champions’’, headed by Professor (Mrs.) Ibok Oduro.
Dr. Mercy Badu, a member of the KNUST Wellness Champions explained that the initiative behind the fair was to make available fresh foods to members of the University community. She revealed that most people are not aware of the chemicals used on the vegetables and fruits they purchase from the market. According to Dr Mercy Badu, the exhibition would serve as a platform to bring to consumers wholesome fresh foods that are available and produced in KNUST and subsequently direct people to know the various locations where they can get these fresh foods to purchase.
Fresh foods exhibited were tomatoes, scotch bonnet pepper, sweet bell pepper, palm nut fruit, okra, tilapia, fruits and other vegetables.
