Professor Nathaniel Boso has been appointed as an extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria's Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) by the Governing Council of the University of Pretoria (UP). Professor Boso, who is currently a Professor and Dean at KNUST School of Business (KSB), will hold this position for a three-year term (1 September 2021 to 30 September 2024), with the possibility of re-appointment for a second term.
The University of Pretoria's GIBS is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and internationally by Association of MBAs (AMBA). The Institution normally appoints persons with scholarly prestige as extraordinary professors, allowing faculties and departments to grant these distinguished scholars recognition and involvement in academic programmes.
In his acceptance speech, Professor Boso stated that he was extremely honoured and privileged to be designated extraordinary Professor at University of Pretoria, one of Africa's most distinguished higher educational institutions. "I am thrilled to be a part of a ground-breaking initiative to strengthen collaboration between the University of Pretoria's GIBS and KSB to advance research in international business and entrepreneurship on the African continent”, he said.
He expressed interest in working with his colleagues at GIBS to welcome PhD students from GIBS to KSB and vice versa, co-organise research events such as symposia, seminars, and conferences, and collaborate on research initiatives. “My engagement at GIBS provides a credible avenue for KSB to internationalise our academic and research operations”,' he noted.
Professor Nathaniel Boso, a savvy international marketing and strategy expert, joined KNUST in 2017. Before joining KNUST, he was an Associate Professor of Marketing at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. His study focuses on the interactions between international entrepreneurship, marketing, and supply chain strategies. He is renowned to produce high-quality and internationally recognised research.
As a result of his work, he has received numerous international honours; he was the recipient of the American Marketing Association Foundation's 2019 S. Tamer Cavusgil Award, which honours the Journal of International Marketing article published in the calendar year that has made the most significant contribution to the advancement of the practice of international marketing management. His research also earned the Best Conference Paper Award and the Best Empirical Paper Award at the 25th Annual Conference of the United States Association of Small Business & Entrepreneurship. He has articles in high-impact journals such as the Journal of Business Venturin.
He is also the Vice-President of the African Chapter of the Academy of International Business. He was recently named to the OR Tambo Africa Research Chair, which comes with a 14 million Rand budget (USD 1.075 Million). He is also the Principal Investigator (PI) at KNUST on the USD 15 million United States Agency for International Development-funded “Building Research and Innovation for Development: Generating Evidence and Training (BRIDGE-Train)” project (USAID).
Professor Nathaniel Boso obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from University of Ghana in 2002, Master of Science degree in Marketing from Umea University (AACSB accredited) in Sweden in 2004 and a Ph.D. in International Entrepreneurship and Marketing from Loughborough University (AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA accredited) in the United Kingdom in 2011.
