The Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG) has fulfilled its annual commitment to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi by donating fifty (50) brand-new HP laptops to the Vice-Chancellor’s 'Support One Needy Student with One Laptop (SONSOL) Project'. The donation, which took place on Monday, 19th August 2024 at the Council Chamber of the University, marks the fourth consecutive year of CBG’s support towards the SONSOL Project.
Mr. Emmanuel Nikoi, the Director of Retail and Business at CBG, presented the laptops on behalf of the Bank’s Board of Directors. During the presentation, he emphasised that the donation is part of a longstanding commitment, made four years ago, to provide fifty (50) laptops annually to support brilliant but needy students at KNUST.
Mr. Nikoi also commended the strong relationship between CBG and KNUST, reaffirming the Bank’s dedication to supporting the University’s initiatives and took the opportunity to congratulate the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson on her re-appointment as the Vice-Chancellor for a second term. He assured her of CBG’s continued support for her vision in the years ahead.
Receiving the laptops, the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson expressed her gratitude to CBG for consistently honouring its commitment. She highlighted on the importance of equipping students with the necessary technological tools in today’s digital age, especially for a leading science and technology institution like KNUST. The Vice-Chancellor recounted the initial decision to launch the SONSOL Project, which aims to support brilliant but financially disadvantaged students, noting that the initiative is vital in ensuring equal access and inclusivity to educational resources.
Professor (Mrs.) Akosua Dickson lauded CBG for their unwavering support over the years and expressed optimism about future collaborations aimed at furthering the University’s mission. She assured them that the laptops would be distributed to students who genuinely qualify as brilliant but needy students.
