KNUST Basic School hosted Kleanz Ghana Limited for a handwashing campaign to promote proper hand hygiene among pupils and raise awareness of its role in preventing communicable diseases.
The programme marked Global Handwashing Day and encouraged pupils to practise good hygiene and promote cleanliness in their homes and communities.
The Deputy Head of KNUST Basic School, Mrs. Nana Oye A. Woodiez, thanked the company for choosing the school for the initiative.
She said the school already had handwashing facilities, but the programme would strengthen pupils’ understanding of personal hygiene.
“We are grateful that Kleanz Ghana Limited has chosen our school to educate our children. Whatever you have come to teach them, we will take it up and ensure that they put it into practice,” she said.

The Brands Manager of Kleanz Ghana Limited, Ms. Victoria Abakah, said the initiative formed part of the company’s efforts to promote hand hygiene among schoolchildren.
She said children were familiar with handwashing but needed guidance on the correct techniques and when to wash their hands.
“We want to remind them of the need to wash their hands, especially before and after eating, after using the washroom, sneezing or coughing, and whenever they come into contact with dirty surfaces,” she said.
Ms. Abakah said the campaign had reached several schools in Accra and Kumasi.
Pupils took part in practical handwashing demonstrations and activities to reinforce the lessons. They were also introduced to the Clean Hygiene Pledge and received personal hand sanitisers for use when running water was unavailable.
Kleanz Ghana Limited donated cartons of hand soap and sanitisers to the school, along with hygiene dispensers.

The Head of KNUST Basic School, Rev. Mrs. Irene O. Nkansah, urged pupils to make handwashing a regular practice at school and at home.
She encouraged them to wash their hands with soap and running water before eating and to use hand sanitisers when water was unavailable.
Rev. Mrs. Nkansah thanked the company for the programme and expressed hope that the partnership would continue to benefit future pupils.
