Professor Daniel Sakyi, a professor of Economics and Director of the Centre for Cultural and African Studies (CeCASt), at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi has earned a recognition by the International Economic Association (IEA) as its ‘‘Featured Economist’’ for November 2025.

The recognition celebrates his outstanding contributions and research focus on development macroeconomics, economic growth and development, international trade, and regional integration with a focus on Africa and the developing world at large.

Over the years, Professor Sakyi has led several impactful research projects and participated in international conferences and workshops across the world. His research works have appeared in reputable peer reviewed journals, including Review of World Economics, Review of Development Economics, The International Trade Journal, The Journal of International Trade and Economic Development, International Economics and Economic Policy, Technovation, Applied Economics, African Development Review, Maritime Economics and Logistics, Maritime Policy and Management, and Journal of African Trade.

Professor Sakyi earned his Ph.D. in Economics from University of Pisa, Italy. He is a member of African Growth and Development Policy Modeling Consortium facilitated by AKADEMIYA2063, an Associate Editor for Foreign Trade Review, and a former Volkswagen Foundation Senior Fellow. He is a visiting Professor at the African Economic Research Consortium’s (AERC) Shared Facility for Specialisation and Electives, hosted by the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Additionally, he serves as an expert trainer and consultant on regional/agricultural trade and development issues.

Professor Sakyi teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Macroeconomic Theory, International Economics, International Development, and International Agricultural Trade and Policy. Aside from teaching, he applies his academic accomplishment to supervising undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students.

The IEA is a non-governmental organization that seeks to promote mutual understanding among economists in different parts of the world through the organization of scientific meetings, through common research programs and by means of publications of an international character on problems of current importance.
