Professor Emmanuel Kofi Akowuah, an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering, has been appointed Acting Director of the E-Learning Centre at KNUST.
Before this appointment, Prof. Akowuah served as Head of the Department of Computer Engineering and Vice-Dean, Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering where he led innovations in curriculum development, digital learning integration, and research in emerging technologies.
Prof. Akowuah is a pioneering researcher in photonics, optical sensing, and AI-based image and signal processing.
His scholarly contributions include photonic crystal fibre design, plasmonic sensors, image classification, and energy systems, integrating advanced engineering principles with artificial intelligence to solve real-world problems.
In his new role, he will lead efforts to expand KNUST’s digital learning infrastructure, promote AI and data analytics in teaching, and enhance the accessibility of virtual learning platforms.
His expertise will be pivotal in advancing KNUST’s vision for inclusive, technology-driven education that extends beyond physical classrooms.
