Professor Mohammed Abdul Kabir, Chief Imam at the KNUST Islamic Centre has encouraged worshippers during the Eid-ul-Adha sermon to sacrifice their basal selves drawing inspiration from the stories of Prophet Abraham and Adam and Eve.

The Chief Imam reminded congregants that Eid is not only a time for ritual animal sacrifice but also a call to spiritual renewal.
Prof. Kabir highlighted the profound example of Prophet Abraham’s sacrifice, describing it as “the greatest ever sacrifice a human was asked to make.” He noted that while worshippers are not asked to make the same literal sacrifice, they are called to a different kind of offering.
“The real sacrifice,” he said, “is in overcoming our basal nature, our selfishness, greed, and pride, just as the animals we will slaughter today.”
The Imam also referenced the story of Adam and Eve, who were led into sin by eating the forbidden fruit but were later restored by God’s mercy. He used this to emphasize that despite human failings, there is always the opportunity for repentance and spiritual growth.
The event brought together students, staff, and community members in prayer, reflection, and communal fellowship.
