The Public Relations Office of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Student Representative Council (SRC) has organized the Public Relations Summit 2025 to enhance communication skills among student communicators.
Held under the theme “Redefining Communications: Creativity, Strategy, and Impact in the Digital Age,” this year’s summit aimed to strengthen a unified communication network across KNUST’s colleges, halls, faculties, departments, and student societies.
The summit brought together public relations officers, publicity heads, media representatives, and PR enthusiasts from across the university.
The training focused on aligning student communication with the university’s official channels while equipping participants with essential skills in crisis communication and stress management.

Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, Deputy Registrar in charge of the University Relations Office (URO), emphasized the importance of harmonizing campus communication.
“There are many activities happening on campus, and if we don’t highlight them, no one will notice. Effective communication is vital for a vibrant and informed campus community. We must spotlight the positive developments within the university, that’s why PROs and bloggers play such a crucial role. Do not just be carriers of bad news,” he explained.
Dr. Bokoe also stressed the collective responsibility of maintaining KNUST’s global reputation.
“Upholding KNUST’s image on the global stage starts with all of us. Protecting the university’s reputation isn’t one person’s job, it’s a shared duty. Everything we do and post contributes to that image,” he said.
He encouraged participants to “master the art of writing” and assured them of support from the URO and Focus FM for their professional growth.

Mr. Nana Kwadwo Jantuah, Managing Director of Focus FM and a broadcast journalist with the Multimedia Group, highlighted the importance of research in communication.
“Specialize in a field. Research, learn, and study, media professionals respect those who prioritize fact-checking and expertise. As intellectuals, you must speak with facts to earn recognition,” he said.
He urged participants to develop skills like information literacy, media literacy, data analysis, and fact-checking, noting their value in career advancement.

Mr. Stephen Zando, a broadcast journalist from the Multimedia Group, reinforced the power of accuracy: “Always verify information with authoritative sources. As PR professionals, your credibility hinges on the accuracy of your facts. Your source is your strength.”
Ebenezer Kofi Brown, SRC Public Relations Officer, underscored the importance of professional growth.
“Value your role as a PRO, leverage your skills, and continuously improve. Competence speaks for itself. Work diligently, and let’s collaborate with the school administration to avoid conflicts. We want you to excel in your roles,” he said.
