The Junior High School (JHS) of KNUST has observed its 2011 Sections Day with its theme as 'Physical Fitness' where Sections which had done exploits in the past year were duly awarded.
Crowning the occasion as the special Guest of Honour, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. W. O. Ellis, deemed it a great honour to be a witness to the basic school's Sections Day. He underscored the occasion as an opportunity for the staff and students of KNUST JHS to showcase the hard work of the various sections. He congratulated the entire school especially the students and teachers for their output during the occasion as well as the past year.
Concerning challenges facing the school, he pledged the unflinching support of the University management for the school. He further commended the school for their long standing laurels in academics for so many years. He encouraged the students that they were in one of the best basic schools in Ghana so they should continue studying hard in order to excel in all their endeavours.
In his goodwill message, the head of basic schools, Mr. Francis Asare Junior, highlighted the importance of Sections Day. He stated that Sections Days were organised to recognise significant scholars of the University, motivate students to aspire higher the academic ladder and, remind students and teachers of the fruitfulness of hardwork.
As part of the occasion, two sporting activities were held: sack race (girls and boys) and tug of war (peace). Also, various trophies in academics and sports were presented to deserving Sections.
Present at the occasion were the Pro. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Donkor, Mrs. Ulzen Appiah, representatives of Prof. Andam, KNUST JHS staff and students body.
