The Vice-Chancellor, Professor William O. Ellis, welcomed the Executives and members of the KNUST Alumni Association to the University when they called on him at the Council Chamber. The call was to officially congratulate Professor Ellis on his appointment as Vice-Chancellor, and to make known to him about the National Council Meeting of the Alumni Association.
In an address, the National President of the KNUST Alumni Association, Mr. Tony Danklu, stated that the Association should be strengthened on the University's campus since it is the basic source of its membership. He appealed to Management of the University to come to the Association's aid in devising strategies and implementing mechanisms aimed at attracting and sustaining new members. He further suggested that the University institutes an Alumni levy as a viable strategy of sustaining fresh graduands in the Association. He used the opportunity to invite the Vice-Chancellor to the National Council Meeting to be held on campus.
On his part, the Vice-Chancellor, welcomed the contributions made by the Association's National President and described them as commendable. He disclosed that social activities such as organising dinner dance would create an enabling environment for members to fraternise with one another in a bid to establish acquaintances within the Association.
In a formal presentation, Professor S.O. Asiama, the immediate past National President of the KNUST Alumni Association, who was adjudged as "KNUST Alumnus Of The Year 2010" was honoured with a trophy. He expressed his appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for the warm reception on behalf of the KNUST Alumni Association, and urged Professor Ellis to participate in the National Council Meeting, and other related activities of the Association.
Among other dignitaries from the KNUST Alumni Association present were: Mr. Michael Nelson, National Vice-President; Madam Eunice Amoako, National General Secretary; Mr. Samuel Donkoh, Local President for Tema Chapter; Mr. Evans Aryee-Quaye, former National General Secretary; Representatives and members from the various Regional Chapters.
