As the drums roared and the traditional horns followed in melodic appellation, the convocation of the university led by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene and chancellor entered the great hall to commence the first of five graduation ceremonies for the 2010/2011 academic year. The colourful decoration of the great hall coupled with the magnificent and smartly dressed graduands and other people present made the whole programme look more like a celestial gathering.
The ceremony begun with a prayer and the ever inspiring University anthem and other traditional activities. After the Chancellor had officially opened the ceremony, the vice chancellor came to give a brief report of the 2010/2011. The auditorium was shaken by laughter when the Vice chancellor remarked that they are starting with the two colleges because they provide the world with food and shelter.
The overall best student, Kwadwo Bakye Boadu, who obtained a first class degree in B.Sc Natural Resource Management gave the valedictory speech, bemoaned the degrading moral values and urged his colleagues to pay attention to that aspect of their lives. He reiterated the need for students to uphold moral standards.
A renowned consultant and alumnus of this prestigious institution gave a motivational speech. He summarized his message to the graduands by telling them to work more on competence and merit rather than use dabble in politics in order to get contracts and other favours from politician. He warned that such a relationship with politicians is more like having an affair with a fetish priest(ess).
The whole great hall resonated with applause when a rather smallish graduand by name Clement took to the stage to be honoured with a degree. It was such a fantastic sight. Considering his size and the fact that he was from a less-endowed school, Mr. Yebo-Okrah, the registrar of the school said KNUST is an equal opportunity university, so once one is determined to excel, the atmosphere will provide the needed aid.
The whole programme was a spectacular one and everyone who was present appreciated that. As the convocation made their way out, the cameras started clicking in supersonic succession. Hugs were freely given, photos taken and goodbyes said. It was a memorable occasion indeed. As the trumpets sounded again, they did not sound just to sing appellations to the Chancellor only. They were announcing to the world that KNUST is sending its products out there to change the affect society positively. As the Architects, Building technologists, Agriculturalists, Planners among others threw their tasseled caps into the sky; it was just a symbolic message that the sky is their stepping stone. To all graduates, KNUST says AYEKOO
