LATEX FOAM, a foam manufacturing company has presented a high jump landing foam mattress worth 6000 Ghana cedis to the Sports Directorate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
The representative from LATEX FOAM, Miss Gloria Opoku stated that, sports development in Ghana is fast advancing and as such has become a strategic venture. She added that, sports development has played a significant role in institutions such as KNUST and said that, LATEX FOAM as a credible institution deemed it prudent to honour KNUST's proposal for materials to assist recreational activities in the University. She noted that, the presentation would enhance the cordial relationship between LATEX FOAM and KNUST.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor William Otoo Ellis, acknowledged LATEX FOAM for their kind gesture to the University. He reiterated KNUST's excellent accomplishments in sports over the years. He continued that, after the University's stadium "Paa Joe" had been refurbished, the sports stadium needed facilities and materials to complete its world class status.
Director of Sports, Mr. J. Y. Adu also thanked LATEX FOAM for honouring the proposal.
In attendance at the brief ceremony were: Oduro Friko Godwin, an athlete who won the 10000 metres men, 5000 metres men (Gold), 3000 metres men (Bronze) and the Overall Best Athlete at the 2nd West African University Games (WAUG) Tennis, Athletics and Table - Tennis (TATT) Championships held in the Federal University of Technology, Akure in Nigeria, from April 22nd to May 2nd 2010. He also won the 1st position at the 2010 Inter University Cross Country Games in Tamale where he broke the time record of 42 seconds with 39 seconds.
Another athlete present was Mohammed Abubakar who won the 400 metres men (Gold) also at the 2nd WAUG Tennis, Athletics and Table - Tennis (TATT) Championships held in the Federal University of Technology, Akure in Nigeria.
