Professor William Otoo Ellis, the Vice-Chancellor, on 27th July, 2016 cut the sod for the commencement of the construction of structures for the Faculty of Social Science and the KNUST Graduate School of Business.
The Faculty of Social Sciences complex when completed would ease pressure on existing infrastructure resulting from the large student population of the Faculty. Berock Ventures Limited are the contractors on the project, with the Director of Works and Physical Development as consultant. The proposed complex will house lecture rooms, a library and offices.
The KNUST Graduate School of Business Complex, when completed will have two auditoriums, over thirty offices, two lecture halls with a seating capacity of two hundred and three hundred respectively, a cafeteria and a library among others. The structures are being funded from internally generated funds.
Professor William Otoo Ellis stated that the construction projects were timely. He noted that the focus of the university was on postgraduate education. He remarked that if the KNUST School of Business was growing in numbers, encouraging teaching, learning and research at the graduate level, then there was the need to expand facilities and infrastructure.
He also called on the contractors to understand the dynamics of how the public tertiary education system worked and to stand by the university in difficult times. The Vice-Chancellor also cautioned staff of the Development Office against making variations to the building plans.
