The State Insurance Company (SIC) has honoured its commitment to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi by donating fifty (50) brand-new Lenovo laptop computers in support of the Vice Chancellor’s initiative “Support One Needy Student with One Laptop (SONSOL) Project”. The presentation was made on Tuesday, 10th September 2024, at the Council Chamber of the University.

The donation was made by Dr. Audu Rauf, Board Chairman of SIC, on behalf of the management, staff, and stakeholders of the State Insurance Company. In his remarks, Dr. Rauf commended KNUST for its outstanding achievements and expressed SIC's desire to support the University in its continued pursuit of excellence. He highlighted the critical role technology plays in education today and underscored the importance of equipping students with the necessary tools to succeed in an increasingly digital world.

The Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickon, receiving the laptops thanked SIC for fulfilling their promise made when they donated the first batch of the fifty (50) laptops in January 2021. She noted that KNUST thrives on partnerships and cherishes the relationship with partners like SIC. She recalled that the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic affected the traditional mode of teaching and learning, hence, the University through the Institute of Distance Learning and the KNUST E-Learning Centre facilitated the online and face-to-face teaching and learning.
Professor (Mrs.) Dickson reiterated the University’s commitment to an all-inclusive education which ensures that no student is left behind, regardless of their circumstances. The Vice-Chancellor assured the management of SIC that the laptops would be distributed to students in genuine need and appealed to other organisations to support the SONSOL Project.
Accompanying the Board Chairman were Mr. Michael Adu-Gyamfi, Special Assistant to the Managing Director; Dr. Martha Edusei, Kumasi Area Manager of SIC; Maame Esi Akorfuah Essel, Despite Head, Corporate Affairs Department; and other staff of SIC Insurance PLC.
The Registrar of KNUST, Mr. Andrews Kwasi Boateng was also present at the occasion.
