The Provost of the College of Health Sciences (CoHS), Professor Christian Agyare, together with executives of the Health Students Association (HESA), has commissioned six newly constructed reading and discussion areas for students of the College at the Boadi Medical Enclave of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The facilities, valued at about GHS 55,000 each, include canopies, chairs, desks fitted with charging sockets, laptop charging points and lighting, to provide students with a comfortable space for study and group discussions.
Professor Agyare said the initiative was part of efforts to improve learning conditions as student numbers continue to rise. He explained that the Office of the Provost provided financial support, technical personnel and logistics to realise the project.
“With the increasing numbers, it was prudent that the College supports students to make learning more conducive,” he said. He commended the immediate past HESA President, Samuel W. Tampanga, Kwame Ahenkorah Antwi, and the leadership of both HESA and the Medical Students Association (MESA) for their role in driving the project.
Professor Agyare also acknowledged the leadership of Bernard Bosome Yeboah and his team for conceptualising the idea, and encouraged incoming student executives to continue initiating sustainable projects. He appealed to students to take good care of the facilities and use them for their intended purpose.
Samuel Tampanga said the project was made possible through the shared vision of students and the Provost. He expressed appreciation on behalf of the student body for the investment and support.
Two of the facilities were funded by the Provost’s Office, one located at the Clinical Students Hostel at KATH and the other at the Boadi Medical Enclave, while HESA and MESA each constructed one facility respectively.
