The Professor J.C. Whittaker Foundation, through the Board of Trustees of the Professor K.C. Whittaker Endowment Fund has awarded fifteen (15) brilliant female students of the Department of Physics of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with thirty-five thousand cedis (₵35,000).
The Scholarship award of is to encourage brilliant females to study physics and meteorology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels according to Mr. Samuel Inkumsah, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Endowment Fund.
Mr. Inkumsah said the award of the Scholarship is in line with the Trust’s aim to promote female education, especially in the field of physics in Ghana and the desire to ease the financial burden of students. The Trust has granted scholarships to over 135 students since 1998 and in addition to providing renovation works at the Department.
Mr. Inkumsah said the Scholarship Scheme was instituted to greatly motivate the students to strive for academic excellence in fulfillment of the wishes of the late Mrs. Rose Whittaker, who directed in her will, that an educational fund should instituted in honour of her late husband, Dr. K. C. Whittaker.
Professor Kwasi Preko, Head of the Department of Physics, thanked the donors for their assistance to the beneficiaries and the Department over the years. He also paid tribute to the late Dr. K. C. Whitaker who became the first Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences, KNUST and his wife Mrs. Rose Whitaker.
