Professor Samuel Asare-Nkansah has been re-elected as the Professorial Member of Convocation to serve on the governing Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.
In elections held on November 5, 2025, he secured 526 votes against Professor Henry Kofi Mensah, who received 234. His two-year term will run from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2027.
A Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Nkansah brings to the Council a research career that spans drug discovery, pharmaceutical quality assurance and public health protection. His work focuses on the isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds from natural sources for the development of new treatments for infectious and metabolic diseases.
He has contributed significantly to improving the quality control of both herbal and orthodox medicines in Ghana, leading studies that establish analytical standards for detecting impurities, heavy metals and contaminants through advanced chromatographic and spectroscopic methods.
Professor Asare-Nkansah is also widely recognized for his contributions to efforts addressing antimicrobial resistance.
His research includes monitoring antibiotic residues in clinical and environmental samples and examining their implications for public health and patient safety. His expertise in bioanalytical chemistry and therapeutic drug monitoring has supported improved pharmacokinetic evaluation and safer medication use within healthcare systems.
As the Professorial Member on the University Council, Professor Nkansah is expected to play a critical role in shaping academic governance and advising on research-related policy decisions.
