Prof. (Mrs.) Ama Agyeibea Amuasi has been re-elected Vice-Dean of the School of Dentistry at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), extending her leadership in a role that complements her work as a clinician, researcher and academic.
Prof. Amuasi was returned to office after securing 100 per cent of the valid votes cast in elections conducted by the College of Health Sciences through the University's Electronic/Email Voting System on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
A Consultant Orthodontist in KNUST's Department of Child Oral Health and Orthodontics, Prof. Amuasi holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Ghana Dental School, where she received the Dr T. A. Richardson Prize in Community Health Dentistry for the best dissertation and was recognised as the Best Student in Restorative Dentistry.
She later completed a Master of Dental Surgery in Orthodontics and a full clinical residency at Ryazan State I. P. Pavlov Medical University in Russia, graduating with distinctions in both clinical and theoretical orthodontics. Her specialist training was supported by a Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Fellowship Award. She became a Fellow of the Ghana College of Surgeons in Dentistry in 2018 and earned a PhD in Health Promotion and Education from Walden University in the United States in 2024.
Her expertise spans orthodontics, health promotion and public engagement. She is a member of the Global Health and Infectious Diseases Research Group at the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR), where she contributes to community engagement and Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) activities.
Within KNUST, Prof. Amuasi has served as Clinical Coordinator for the dental programme since 2016, Head of the Department of Child Oral Health and Orthodontics from 2020 to 2022, and currently heads the Department of Basic and Diagnostic Oral Health Sciences.
Her research focuses on paediatric oral health, cleft lip and palate management, oral infections, dental care-seeking behaviour and dental education, with particular interest in the influence of education, culture and access to information on oral health outcomes.
As Vice-Dean, Prof. Amuasi will continue to support the Dean in providing academic leadership, strengthening clinical education, advancing research, promoting faculty and student development, and expanding the School's local and international collaborations.
In accordance with the University's Statutes, her appointment is subject to approval by the University Council on the recommendation of the Academic Board, after which she will serve a one-year term.
