The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi community has welcomed the publication of a new book that captures the history, role, and traditions of the University’s Esquire Bedels.
Authored by Assistant Registrar at the University Relations Office, Emmanuel Kwasi Debrah, The KNUST Esquire Bedels is the first dedicated work to document the ceremonial custodians who play a vital role in the University’s academic life.
The book traces their contributions to KNUST’s heritage, from their symbolic regalia to their role in safeguarding the dignity of academic ceremonies.
Speaking at a virtual launch, Mr. Debrah explained his motivation for the book: “For years, the Esquire Bedels have walked before us at congregations, yet very little was recorded about their role. This book is my modest contribution to preserving their story, ensuring that future generations understand the symbolism and heritage they hold.”
Available in both eBook and paperback editions, the book serves as an important archival resource and a tribute to the unsung figures who embody KNUST’s tradition of excellence.
It further underscores the University’s commitment to preserving its history for generations to come.
