The Management of Ghana Publishing Company Limited has called on the Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The purpose of the visit was to discuss possible ways of collaborating with management of the University and some departments of the University.
Dr. Daniel Owusu-Ansah, Board Chairman of the Ghana Publishing Company Ltd., a Faculty Member, stated that the Company exists primarily to print, publish and distribute very high-quality books and stationery to educational institutions, government departments and agencies as well as the general public at competitive prices. He revealed that one of the printing houses doing well in Ghana is the University Press, Kumasi (UPK) and that they want to take the opportunity to collaborate with the University Press.
Professor Kwasi Obiri Danso, Vice-Chancellor, thanked management of Ghana Publishing Co. Ltd., and noted that, as partners, they should have a strong relationship where there will be an opportunity for students to have internships in their company as a way of training them for the future. He continued that, the interest of students in the publishing field has waned because of lack of job opportunities after school. He suggested to the management of the company to engage the government in making available more government printing jobs to Ghanaian companies in order to create more jobs opportunities.
Mr. David Asante, the Managing Director of Ghana Publishing Company Ltd., stated that, they wish to establish a mutually beneficial relationship between academia and industry as part of the restructuring exercise they are embarking on. He added that it was an opportunity for the management to draw inspiration from the Vice Chancellor and the Department of Publishing Studies to also transform the students in the department.
