The women’s wing of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) has honoured Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson on her achievement as the first female Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. The team presented a citation when they paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor at the Council Chamber.
According to Dr. (Mrs.) Victoria Aboah, the Coordinator of Women in Surveying, ‘Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson is an inspiration to women in showcasing that women have the potential and are capable of taking up key leadership roles.’ On behalf of the GhIS, she was confident that Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson will lead KNUST to a higher standard of excellence.
Professor Dickson, in her response thanked the GhIS for honouring her and dedicated it to all women in various positions. According to her, women are vital in the growth, management and development of the country. She encouraged women to do their best in their various offices for the development of the country.
Professor Dickson said that as part of her vision, she is set to roll out a project dubbed SONSOL Project. This project will support each needy student with a Laptop. She explained that the need became imperatively clear as a greater number of the students were unable to access the online resources for learning. She solicited for the support of GhIS to help her achieve this goal.
The Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) comprises members of the recognised Overseas Professional Bodies who are practicing in Ghana viz: Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and the Institute of Quality Surveyors and Members of the Licensed Surveyors Association. The membership is made up of Land Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Valuation and Estate Surveying divisions.
