A second-year Communication Design student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), has emerged winner of the University's 75th Anniversary Logo Design Competition after her design was selected as the official emblem for the milestone celebration.
Faustina Eduah, who is also a Mastercard Foundation Scholar, beat several entries submitted by students and alumni to secure the top prize in the competition. Notably, she was the only female participant among the finalists.
Chairman of the Logo Subcommittee, Professor Yaw Adubofour Tuffour, said the selection process involved a rigorous assessment of entries based on creativity, relevance to the anniversary theme and public appeal.
"We needed a logo that would tell the story of KNUST's journey from excellence to eminence. After carefully reviewing all the submissions against our criteria, we selected a design that effectively captures the vision and significance of the anniversary," he said.
For her achievement, Faustina received a cash prize of GHC10,000 and KNUST memorabilia from the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, at a presentation ceremony held at the Council Chamber.
Prof. Dickson congratulated the student on her accomplishment and encouraged more female students to take advantage of opportunities that showcase their talents and creativity.
Speaking after receiving the award, Faustina expressed pride in contributing to a historic moment in the University's journey.
"I've been able to design the logo for this anniversary, and I'm so proud of myself," she said.
She noted that being a second-year student did not deter her from entering the competition.
"The fact that I'm in second year didn't stop me. I took the opportunity because I believed I could do something meaningful," she said.
Faustina attributed her success partly to the leadership training and mentorship she has received through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
"As a Mastercard Foundation Scholar, we are trained to become transformative leaders. We are encouraged to take initiative, position ourselves for a better future and help others along the way," she said.
Encouraging fellow students to pursue opportunities with confidence, she urged them not to underestimate their potential.
"I am a second-year student, and I did not take this competition for granted. I want every student to know that you can also do better. It does not matter where you come from or what you have experienced in the past. Have a vision, work towards it and remain committed to your goals," she said.
According to her, success requires dedication, sacrifice and continuous self-improvement.
"If you want to be at the top, you have to add a little extra effort. It takes sacrifice, time, knowledge and commitment. The investment you make in yourself today will determine the future you build tomorrow," she added.
The winning design will serve as the official logo for KNUST's 75th Anniversary celebrations, which are expected to be launched on June 24, 2026, under the theme, "From Excellence to Eminence: 75 Years of KNUST."
