The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi has expressed profound appreciation to Mr. John Hulede, Founder and Director of the Hulede Foundation, for the Foundation’s continued commitment to supporting brilliant but financially challenged students through scholarships, mentorship, and personal development initiatives.

During a courtesy call on KNUST management, Mr. Hulede shared the motivation behind the Foundation’s establishment.
He noted that the Hulede Foundation was set up in honour of their late father, Mr. Patrick Hulede, the first manager of the University Printing Press, by his two sons, Patrick and John. “The Foundation’s mission is to create opportunities for the less privileged in society to better their lives,” he stated.
Mr. Hulede revealed that the Foundation’s scholarship programme at KNUST is its flagship initiative, designed to replicate its efforts at the tertiary level and in Kumasi, where the founders grew up.
“We are focused on identifying brilliant students who are genuinely underprivileged and supporting them in their pursuit of higher education,” he said. “Beyond financial support, we aim to provide laptops to top-performing scholars, as well as mentorship, accountability, career development, and other life-changing opportunities.”
He added that a key requirement of the scholarship is that beneficiaries complete 40 hours of community service during the vacation period.
“Our ultimate desire is to encourage recipients to develop and maintain a culture of giving back to society. The theme for this year is ‘A Giving Spirit Multiplies,’” he indicated.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Asare-Nkansah, a professorial representative on the University Council, lauded the Hulede Foundation’s generous support and growing impact.
“Every year, your contributions increase. From the 2021/2022 to the 2023/2024 academic years, the Foundation has awarded scholarships to 674 students, amounting to over one million Ghana cedis. We do not take this for granted,” he stated.
“You are not only providing financial support; you are also assisting us in training these students in essential life skills such as social responsibility, empathy, and leadership. We deeply admire and appreciate your growing commitment to supporting students at KNUST,” Professor Asare-Nkansah emphasised.

The Director of Student Affairs (DoSA), Professor Marian Asantewah Nkansah, also expressed appreciation to the Founder for his continuous support. She took the opportunity to appeal for additional support due to the increasing number of students in need.
