Newly built complexes for the College of Science and the KNUST School of Business (KSB) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have been commissioned.
The magnificent edifices were constructed by Consar Limited at the cost of approximately 8 million Ghana cedis.The two projects were duly completed under the auspices of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) and some internally generated funds from KNUST.
The College of Science complex cost about GHC 5,092,973.60 out of which GHC 4,092,973.60 was contributed by the GETFUND and the remaining GHC 1, 000,000.00 was internally generated by the college. Also, the KNUST School of Business complex cost about GHC 2,475,250.68 which includes the construction of access road to the school out of which the GETFUND contributed GHC 1,137,131.05 and the remaining GHC 1,338,519.63 internally generated by the School of Business.
The Provost of the College of Science, Prof. Aboagye Menyeh, in a speech, highlighted the need for the complex as the college keeps expanding over the years regarding the number of Departments as well as the number of Academic Programmes being offered resulting in the increased intake of students and staff. He added that the long awaited magnificent edifice has come to curb all negativities previously encountered by the college.
The Ag. Dean of the KNUST School of Business, Mr. J.M. Frimpong in an address also spoke on the need for the complex. He added that it will assist in their goal of attaining global recognition as a centre of excellence in Africa for the development and production of high caliber graduates, with hands-on knowledge and expertise in management and a strong entrepreneurial orientation, to support the industrial and socio-economic development of Ghana and Africa.
The Akyempimhene, Oheneba Adusei Poku, speaking on behalf of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, said that the project marks a milestone in the annals of the KNUST. He also gave the assurance that the University will chalk many successes under the Chancellorship of Otumfuo. Oheneba Adusei Poku thanked those who contributed in diverse ways in making full realization of the project.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. K.K. Adarkwa, in a speech described the College of Science as a flagship college of the University. He added that the University has contributed 500 lecture room furniture to the College of Science and the KSB. Prof. Adarkwa assured them of the University’s unfailing and consistent support.
