PREAMBLE
We warmly welcome all first year students to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science And Technology (KNUST) Kumasi. We also welcome all the continuing students back on campus for the First Semester of the 2010/2011 academic year. Please do take note of the following information:
ON ARRIVAL IN KUMASI
When you arrive in Kumasi at any of these points (Kejetia, Metro Mass Terminal, STC Yard etc), look for helpers wearing KNUST-SRC Volunteers T-shirt with the University’s logo, or, do ask for a taxi or mini bus that would send you to Tek (KNUST) junction. At the Tek junction, please look for helpers wearing KNUST-SRC Volunteers T-shirt with the University’s logo. They will help you with your luggage and direct you to board a KNUST shuttle or taxi to campus where you alight at your Hall of Residence. You will also find volunteers and KNUST security guards to help you, as you go along.
REGISTRATION AND ROOM ALLOCATION
Register with the hall authorities after which a room would be allocated to you. All freshers are expected to get to their respective faculties and Departments with their Bankers Draft and register; you may have to pay for Faculty and Departmental association dues over there. Fresh students who find difficulties in locating their faculties should seek help from the security guards or the SRC Volunteers. All freshers are expected to arrive on campus on Friday, August 13, 2010. Faculty registration begins on Monday 16 August, and ends on Friday 20th August, 2010.Continuing students would also arrive on Friday 20 August,2010.
ORIENTATION
Freshmen and women will be attending an orientation exercise in the Great Hall, prior to the commencement of lectures. This will be held in two groups as follows:

The programme starts at 8:30am each day. Please note that the orientation is mandatory for all Freshers.
ASSOCIATIONS AND CLUBS
To facilitate social interactions among students, you are encouraged to join any recognized association or club of your choice when you are settled.
RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES
The religious bodies on campus emanate from the various mother churches in and around Kumasi. The student Chaplaincy Council has over 16 Churches registered with it. Some of these are Assemblies of God Campus Ministry (AGCM), Apostolic Students Association, Baptist Union, Campus Crusade for Christ International (CCCI), Campus Christian fellowship (CCF), Christian Medical fellowship (CMF), Ghana Methodist students’ union (GHAMSU) Inter-hall Christian Fellowship (IHCF) National Union of Presbyterian students-Ghana (NUPS-G), among others. Some meet in the halls, old laundry building, Protestant Chapel, Catholic Chapel all on campus. Please make it a point to read banners and other notices around; asking friends to show you where these facilities are located. The Moslem community also hold their gatherings at the rear Foyer of the Great Hall.
BANKING AND OTHER TRANSACTIONS
At the Commercial Area, you would find the various banks with which you may do your banking transaction including deposits, savings, money transfer, withdrawals and more. There is a Post Office within the commercial area for money orders, letters, among others. Again there are shopping malls within the precinct of the commercial area, from where you can get all your needs. The Kingdom Bookshop, located at the commercial area is available to help with tour needs as far as books and stationary are concerned.
PAYMENT OF FEES
Fees must be paid by money order through any of the following banks; Ghana Commercial Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, HFC Bank, UBA, Ecobank and Cal Bank. All Freshers are to produce their Admission Letters at the point of payment of fees. Fees paid are not refundable.
IDENTIFICATION
Student Identity Cards (ID Cards) will be provided for each student in due course. You will be required to always have your ID card on you wherever you may find yourself. Misplaced ID cards should be reported immediately at the Quality Assurance and Planning Unit, located just before the Finance Office at the main Administration.
MEDICAL EXAMINATION
Every fresh student is required to undergo a structured Medical Examination:
Whilst registering, make it a point to do your medical examination at the KNUST Hospital located opposite the Ghana Commercial Bank near the Tek-junction.
CAUTION
• Misplaced belongings are to be reported to the security guards and Hall Executives in the respective Halls.
