The Board Members of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (non-profit association), commonly known as IAESTE has called on the Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST during their annual summer meeting in KNUST.
According to Prof. Bernard Baeyeans, the President of IAESTE, the organisation is an association of national committees representing academic, industrial and student interests. He said that, it serves about 4000 students, 3000 employers and 1000 academic institutions through career-focused professional internships abroad, social and intercultural reception programmes, international networking and other career and employer branding activities in more than 80 countries worldwide. He added that, the association operates a high quality practical training exchange programme between members to enhance technical experience and professional development of students, relevant to their studies.
Dr. Ebenezer J. D. Belford, Patron of IAESTE, noted that, the association is a source of cultural enrichment for trainees and their host communities and that it operates irrespective of race, culture, religious or political beliefs, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression. He indicated that, every year, IAESTE students from the tertiary institutions are assisted by the association to have their practical training abroad. He added that, since it is an exchange programme, Ghana receives IAESTE students from member countries abroad to also undertake practical training here. Dr. Belford also added that, the programme is not only meant for male students but female students as well.
Prof. Kwasi Obiri Danso, Vice-Chancellor, expressed his gratitude to the Board for supporting students in Science and Engineering. He assured them of his continuous support to the association and to foreign students who undertake their practical training in KNUST. He also stated that, he looks forward to more fruitful collaborations with them to add to the many developments of the University.
