Dr. Bismarck Dinko of the Department of Clinical Microbiology, School of Medical Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), has been awarded a Georg Forster Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

The fellowship will support recurring research stays at Heidelberg University Hospital in Germany between 2026 and 2028, where Dr. Dinko will collaborate with Prof. Dr. Friedrich Frischknecht on research into malaria parasite biology.

His research will focus on understanding how malaria parasites adapt within different human tissues, with findings expected to contribute to the development of new malaria vaccine strategies.

Beyond advancing his research, the fellowship will support Dr. Dinko in establishing an interdisciplinary research team at KNUST, expanding international research collaborations, and strengthening research leadership. The experience and networks developed through the fellowship are expected to enhance research capacity and postgraduate training at the University.

The Georg Forster Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers supports outstanding scientists from developing and emerging countries whose research has the potential to contribute to sustainable development in their home countries.

Administered by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the fellowship promotes long-term international scientific collaboration through research stays at leading institutions in Germany.
