A representative of Dortmund University from Germany, Prof. Dr. Einhard Schmidt - Kallert, Faculty of Spatial Planning, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. William Otoo Ellis. Prof. Dr. Schmidt - Kallert disclosed avenues established by TU Dortmund University intended to deepen its partnership with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Prof. Kallert assured that, the partnership between TU Dortmund University and the College of Architecture and Planning of KNUST would be elevated to an appreciable level. He reiterated that, there would be a University partnership instead of the Faculty partnership. Consequently, the programme would be extended to other facilities and departments of the University.
In addition to the Masters programme currently on offer as a result of the partnership, Prof. Kallert noted that TU Dortmund University would introduce PhD programmes as part of the avenues to intensify the collaboration. The duration of the PhD programmes will be three (3) years, which would include workshops, seminars, writing skills and others.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ellis, expressed his appreciation to TU Dortmund University for renewing its partnership with KNUST, and hoped that the collaboration between the two (2) universities would be extended to another level. The Vice-Chancellor recommended that, a seminar should be organized by the College to enlighten participants about the KNUST collaboration with TU Dortmund University as well as the introduction of PhD programmes. "This will create a platform for interested applicants to apply for the PhD programmes", he stated.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that, the University administration would continue to support its partnership with the TU Dortmund University. He therefore lauded the delegation and pledged his full support for their activities.
In an interview with Dr. Imoro Braimah, the Head of Department of Planning, he described the partnership of KNUST with TU Dortmund University as part of a network with three (3) other universities; Ardhi University - Tanzania, University of Philippines and Canada University - Chile. He further stated that, currently, TU Dortmund University is running a Masters programme with the Department of Planning. He mentioned the introduction of PhD programmes in addition to the Masters programmes as part of the renewal of the partnership.
Present at the meeting were the Provost of College of Architecture and Planning, Prof. Edward Baidoo; Director of PhD Programmes of the Department of Planning, Dr. Mensah Bonsu and Director of Spring Programme (Masters Programme), Dr. Inkoom.
