The Technical Center for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) has organised a two (2) day sensitisation workshop at the KNUST on the use of Smart Toolkit for evaluating information projects, products and services.
The objective of CTA is to improve availability of and access to appropriate information for African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) agricultural and rural development, and also improve information and communication capacity of ACP agricultural and rural development organisations.
The Manager, Planning and Strategic Services Department of CTA, Dr. Ibrahim Khadar, said that for institutions to be fully operational and effective, information and communication professionals need to work in an enabling environment characterised by adequate resources with appropriate institutional capacity and regular interaction with policy makers.
He stated that the Smart Toolkit has become an established and highly sought-after resource for information and communication professionals.
Dr. Ibrahim Khadar said through the workshop, participants would eventually acquire new skills in planning, developing strategies, monitoring and evaluation.
The Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. William Otoo Ellis, in his welcome address read on his behalf, stated that progress in Information Communication Technology (ICT) is rapidly changing our world with major impact both positive and negative, on the way we live and work.
He stated that our world is experiencing a significant transformation into an information society where the capacity of individuals, societies and nations to access and use information and knowledge is fundamental to their very survival.
Prof. William Otoo Ellis emphasized that the use of Smart Toolkit can help information professionals to be more skillful in planning, monitoring and evaluation and also help researchers and scientists to have access to up-to- date credible information.
The KNUST Liberian, Mrs. Helena Asamoah- Hassan advised that, the participants should take the workshop seriously especially the Smart Toolkit which will enable them to evaluate their projects more effectively.
