The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has delivered another strong performance at the Grand Finale of the Graphic Business Tertiary Business Sense Challenge (TBSC) Version 8.0, finishing third with 24.5 points after a campaign marked by consistency and closely contested victories.
Organised jointly by Graphic Business and the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), the annual competition brings together leading tertiary institutions to compete in finance, accounting, business strategy and economics.
While the University of Cape Coast emerged winners of this year's competition, KNUST's route to the Grand Finale was one of the most closely contested campaigns of the tournament.
A strong start in the zonal competition
KNUST opened its campaign in July 2026 at the North-Mid Zone qualifiers with a commanding 43–27.5 victory over Kumasi Technical University (KsTU). The team went on to top the zonal competition with 42 points, finishing ahead of five other institutions to secure qualification to the national knockout stage.
Narrow victories on the road to the final
The national knockout stage tested the team's composure in two successive contests decided by the narrowest of margins.
In the quarter-final, KNUST faced Valley View University in a tightly contested encounter that remained undecided until the closing stages. The team progressed with a 33.5–33 victory, winning by 0.5 points.
The semi-final against Accra Technical University proved equally competitive. KNUST secured a 27–26 victory to book its place in the Grand Finale, advancing through the two knockout rounds by a combined margin of just 1.5 points.
Strong showing at the grand finale
At the Grand Finale, KNUST competed against the country's leading teams across five rounds.
The university recorded one of its strongest performances in the third round, widely regarded as the competition's most demanding stage, scoring 17 points to finish ahead of the University of Ghana, Legon (14.5 points) and close the gap on the eventual winners, the University of Cape Coast (18.5 points).
KNUST concluded the competition with 24.5 points, securing third place nationally and extending its record of six consecutive appearances at the TBSC Grand Finale from 2021 to 2026.
A great team performance
KNUST was represented by Fredrick Asontoliya, Kelvin Afrifa, Israel Quarcoo and Frankie Acquaye, with guidance from coach and former TBSC contestant Vitalis Bamgmeyiri.
