The Vice-Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson has called for collective action across the university community as the institution enters a reform year marked by major strategic, legal and institutional milestones.
In a New Year message, the Vice-Chancellor said 2026 would go beyond reflection and renewal to become a defining period in KNUST’s history, with the university set to celebrate its 75th anniversary, roll out a new 10-year corporate strategic plan and operate under a revised governing law.
“Beyond reflection and renewal, 2026 will mark important and exciting milestones in the life of the University,” the Vice-Chancellor said, adding that the changes would require “an all-hands-on-deck approach.”
Central to the reform agenda is the KNUST Corporate Strategic Plan 2026–2035, known as PLAN 2K35, which the Vice-Chancellor described as a bold roadmap to guide the university’s transition “from excellence to eminence.”
The plan will become operational this year, alongside the enactment of a new Act designed to address emerging challenges, threats and opportunities facing the university in a rapidly changing higher education landscape.
The Vice-Chancellor urged staff, students, alumni and partners to move beyond routine performance and contribute actively to the university’s long-term goals, emphasising innovation, creativity, integrity and stronger collaboration across academic and professional communities.
“As we begin this new chapter, I encourage us to continue to embrace innovation and creativity, uphold integrity, and strengthen collaboration,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
The message also expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana and the university’s partners and stakeholders for their continued support, noting that KNUST looked forward to deepening those relationships in the years ahead.
The Vice-Chancellor concluded by wishing the university community a “productive, prosperous, fulfilling and impactful” New Year as KNUST prepares for what it describes as a pivotal phase in its development.
