Ten (10) brilliant but needy students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, have been awarded the S.T. Nankani and Hagan Scholarship. Each beneficiary received One Thousand Five Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHȻ1,500.00), amounting to a total disbursement of Fifteen Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHȻ15,000.00). The scholarship aims to alleviate the financial burden of these students by covering their academic fees.
The presentation ceremony occurred on Friday, 23rd August 2024 at the Directorate of Student Affairs (DoSA) Boardroom. The beneficiaries included; Jessica Frimpong Manso, Theophilus Cobbina, Kwofie Shadrach Martin, Awuah Mary-Ofnn, Emmasenciuan Phoebe Adaili, Jude Amponsah-Oppong, Enoch Nsiah Adarkwah, Emmanuel Odoom, Jessica Nyarko, and Nancy Ampofowaah Mensah.
Professor Wilson A. Agyare, the Director of the Directorate of Student Affairs (DoSA), expressed his gratitude to the S. T. Nankani and Hagan Bursary Scheme for their continuous support. He acknowledged the significant impact the scholarship scheme has had on students over the years and emphasised the University’s appreciation for the ongoing contributions to KNUST.
Speaking at the event, Professor Fred Akuffo, a Member of the Board of Trustees for the Bursary, revealed that the scholarship scheme was established in 2003 in honour of S. T. Nankani, who passed away in 2001. He said more than One Hundred and Thirty (130) students have benefited from the scholarship scheme since its inception. He highlighted the key objective of the Bursary - to support the education of students while promoting gender and regional diversity at KNUST adding that the scholarship is open to second-year students in the Colleges of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Health Sciences, Science, and Engineering.
Mrs. Theodora Oduro, Senior Assistant Registrar at DoSA, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Management of the Scholarship Scheme, noting that the funds would be directed to the beneficiaries’ academic accounts. She urged the students to strive for excellence in their educational pursuits, given the support they have received.
One of the beneficiaries, Miss Jessica Frimpong Manso, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the Scheme for alleviating their financial burdens and promised to do their best to pursue academic excellence.
Also present at the event were Professor Philip Antwi-Agyei, Director of the Office of Grants and Research (OGR), Professor Marian Assantewaa Nkansah, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Student Affairs (DoSA), Professor Akwasi Acheampong Aning, Deputy Director of DOSA, and Mrs. Victoria De-Graft Adjei, Head of the KNUST Counselling Centre.
