The 2025 Regional Qualifiers of the Junior Science and Maths Quiz (JSMQ) kicked off in grand style with the Ashanti Regional contest at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), featuring a special awards ceremony to honour the 2024 champions.
The event marked the beginning of another season of intellectual competition and a moment to celebrate schools and students whose achievements continue to inspire academic excellence in Ghana’s Junior High Schools.
Best Brain Academy received the second runner-up award, while SOS Hermann Gmeiner School was honoured as the first runner-up. KNUST Junior High School was crowned champion of the 2024 edition. Contestants from all three schools received laptops in recognition of their outstanding performance.
Following the awards, the 2025 Ashanti Regional contests began with an electrifying start. Emmanuel Methodist JHS, Supreme Montessori School, and Bridge Montessori School faced off in the first contest, with Emmanuel Methodist JHS emerging victorious.
In the second contest, Divine Mission Academy triumphed over Precious International School and Notre Dame Preparatory School. Peniel Academy won the third contest against Kwadaso SDA JHS and Global Community School.
Professor Kwasi Preko, Board Chairman of the JSMQ, commended the contestants and their coaches for their dedication and teamwork. He urged schools to maintain their commitment to excellence throughout the tournament.
“I appreciate all the young minds and participating schools. Try as much as possible to work very hard wherever you are and remain focused. The Ashanti Regional competition is very challenging, so all coaches should give their best in preparing the students. Remember, it is not only about winning but about taking part. KNUST is working very hard so that by the end of 2028, every junior high school in Ghana will participate in this competition,” he said.
The Ashanti Regional Championship forms part of the broader Junior Science and Maths Quiz 2025 series, which will culminate in the national finals later this year.
