Prof. Ellis said the two critical stakeholders of the university are students and staff. He said since 1996, the University had taken steps to ensure students’ welfare in the changing trends of higher education
Professor Ellis stated that the commissioning of the building had created an identity for the Office of the Dean of Students to meet the needs of students in a well-defined environment. He paid tribute to Rev. Prof. Sarfo Kantanka, the first dean of students for his dedication and commitment to duty during his tenure in the midst of limited resources. He was grateful to other past deans and vice deans of students for helping to nurture students.
He commended the Vanguard Assurance Company for their partnership and support for the cause of students
Ade Ademola Oyebanji, Operations Manager of Vanguard Assurance, pledged his outfit’s support for the University. He stated that KNUST was a strong brand and Vanguard, a leading brand in insurance, hoped to profit from partnering KNUST.
Mr. Oyebanji presented the keys of a brand new Toyota Hilux vehicle from Vanguard Assurance to the Office of the Dean of Students. Dr. Kofi Owusu Daaku received the vehicle on behalf of the University.
Dr. Daaku commended the Vanguard Group for supporting the University especially in partnering the Students’ Representative Council to support students who had lost their parents. He assured Vanguard that the vehicle would be put to good use.
Reverend Dr. Peter Addai Mensah, the Catholic Chaplain dedicated the building and the vehicle. The Vice-Chancellor, assisted by the Dean of Students, cut the tape and unveiled the plaque to officially commission the building.
