Renewable Natural Resources

The Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources is one of the three Faculty components of the College of Agriculture of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.  It was established in 1982 and runs undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Renewable Natural Resource Management.

 

TEACHING AND RESEARCH

The Faculty consists of five academic Departments and they are:

 

1)      Wood Science and Technology Management

2)      Wildlife and Range Management

3)      Silviculture and Forest Management

4)      Fisheries and Watershed Management

5)      Agroforestry

 

In addition, the Faculty runs a separate postgraduate programme, GIS (Naturium), under the auspices of ITC (Netherlands)

 

STAFFING

The Faculty has 30 Senior Members, 17 Administrative and Technical staff.

 

INTAKE OF STUDENTS

During the year under review, the student population increased to the following figures:

i.          Postgraduate Students                        50

ii.         Undergraduate Students         695

 

TEACHING AND LEARNING

The Faculty continues to enhance teaching and research activities.  During the year under review, five LCD projectors were purchased for the Departments.  A new postgraduate office was also opened with internet facilities where students could carry out their research work.

 

Reactivation of the Departmental Laboratories

The five Departments of the Faculty have been reactivated and laboratory technicians have been appointed to serve in these departments.

 

Visitors to the Faculty

From 4th to 8th December, 2009, the Faculty received Prof. Neil Thomas, APERL-CIDA Representative from Canada.

From 5th to 11th March, 2010, the Faculty received Prof. Andrew Gordon and Prof. Naresh Thevathasan, APERL-CIDA Director and Coordinator respectively from Canada.
