
Honourable Elizabeth Agyeman, Member of Parliament (MP) for Oforikrom Constituency in Kumasi has instituted an award for Female Students who would excel in Engineering, Science and School of Medical Sciences as well as the Best Female Student in Law and the Overall Best Student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The award which is expected to run for the next Five years has begun with Female Students who have excelled in the aforementioned fields at the ongoing 46th Congregation Ceremony at KNUST campus.
Each award winner received a cash prize of Five Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢500), a brand new Toshiba Laptop worth One thousand, seven hundred Ghana Cedis and a Certificate of Honour signed by the Honourable MP and the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor William. O. Ellis.
Christiana Udoh Esio, from the Department of Chemical Engineering was awarded the Best Female Students from the College of Engineering; Grace Esi Sackey the Best Female Student from the Faculty of Law; Janice Akomea Acheampong from the Department of Actuarial Science was awarded the Best Female Student from the College of Science, Miss Juliet Aaferemwin Yirempong of the of School of Medical Sciences was also awarded the best female student of the School of Medical Sciences whilst Douglas Opoku-Agyeman Afoakwah received the award for the Overall Best Student.
In an interview with URO, the MP said the award is aimed at encouraging more females to develop interest in Science and Technology education. She also stated that the award has offered her a platform to contribute her quota to the KNUST. She was hopeful the award would go a long way to encourage students to greater height and pledged to include the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in the awards next year.
