
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has handed over its Sunyani Campus to the management of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) at a ceremony held at the Sunyani yesterday.
The ceremony saw the transition of the Institution’s facilities to the managements of the newly created University. A memorandum of Understanding was signed between the KNUST and the UENR. The Sunyani campus which was formally KNUST’s Faculty of Forest Resource Technology therefore seizes to be under the control of KNUST except for the continuing students admitted by KNUST.
Professor William. O. Ellis, the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, said he was happy to be part of the historic event and said it was significant because of the change it was bringing to the people in the Brong Ahafo Region. He added that KNUST has a track record of facilitating the process of mentoring smaller Institutions into bigger ones. He pledged KNUST’s continuous support for the University. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all who worked hard to make the Ceremony a success.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the Council of KNUST, Mr. Kwame Saarah-Mensah said KNUST is prepared to ensure that the UENR grows to become a giant University like KNUST. He said he is optimistic that KNUST will achieve another height with UENR. He pledged his support for the newly established University.
Professor Mrs. Esi Awuah, the Vice-Chancellor of the UENR expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST and his management team for their support. She stated that her team will work assiduously to ensure the success of the University.
The University of Energy and Natural Resources will as from September this year admit its first batch of students into various degree programmes.
