The Head of Co-operation and Cultural Affairs, Mr. Arnaud Dornon and Mme Valerie Lesbros, the Attacheé for Cultural Affairs and Higher Education all of the French Embassy visited the College. They were accompanied by Ms. Joelle Haller, the Co-ordinator for the French Resource Centre at the College.
The delegation had the opportunity to interact with the College’s management team, headed by the Provost, during which a number of issues of mutual benefit were discussed. Discussions centered mainly on enhancing the already existing co-operation between the two parties, and identifying new fields of co-operation.
Under the new areas of co-operation, split-cost scholarships would be available to academically excellent students identified by the College; to pursue Masters or Doctorate degrees in Environment and Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, among others. The split-cost scholarships would provide full coverage of social benefits and free tuition at public universities in France, while the University, KNUST, would bear the student’s living expenses. Officials of the French Embassy also indicated their intention to establish links directly between academic institutions in Ghana and those in France for the purpose of research collaboration. Mr. Dornon said possible opportunities existed also for staff to go on Sabbatical Leave in universities with which links are established.
The Provost was appreciative of the French Embassy’s support and continued interest in the College. He said the College intended to make good of the opportunities, and assured the delegation of the College’s co-operation at all times.
