ABOUT US (Why Engineering)

From the great depths of the ocean to the galaxies of outer space, from the minute human cell to the top of the tallest building, the engineering profession can get you there and with good earnings too.

Basically, engineering is the application of the principles of science in solving problems. It is our aim to make you a professional - innovative, confident and ready to tackle real-life issues. For over forty years, we have been producing highly qualified engineers for Ghana and the world.

The college has a current population of 3100 plus comprising Ghanaian and international students, our desire is to provide quality education that will position graduates to meet the needs of employers. With proficiency in the application of technology in solving challenging issues, our students are also trained to develop good team spirits and there are a number of organizations that help students develop this attitude. These organizations include professional bodies like the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the Ghana Institution of
Engineers (GhIE).

Being the sole provider of excellence in engineering in the country, the College of Engineering develops its education and research in close collaboration with industry. For a total of 14 weeks, students undergo supervised work experience in industry during vacations at the end of which a report is presented. Final year students carry out individual or group projects in which they work under direct supervision of practicing engineers/ lecturers. The projects are intended to develop the student's inventive and creative skills and also demonstrate the student's ability to apply acquired knowledge to solve problems. Examinations and continuous assessments may take the form of thesis, essays, laboratory work, assignments, written reports and oral examinations.

Our experienced full time and visiting lecturers cover disciplines, which are divided into 11 departments. Students have their pick of many fields in engineering and we offer some of the more popular options.

The departments are:
Agricultural Engineering
Chemical Engineering
Civil Engineering
Computer Engineering
Electrical & Electronic Engineering
Geomatic or Geodetic Engineering
Materials Engineering
